FitCheck
An AI clothing app concept that eliminates the issue of ‘having nothing to wear’ and the decision fatigue that comes along with picking out an outfit
Stanford online certificate program: UX/UI Design for AI Products
Project overview
I joined the Stanford online program to obtain a certificate for the UX/UI Design for AI Products course. The course lasted a span of 6 weeks from May 2026 - June 2026. Throughout the course, we were tasked to create our capstone project: identify a need or gap in the market, or within your own experience, that could be addressed through an AI-powered design. I figured out my problem, conducted user research and created a prototype, all using AI.

Problem
I find that I have so many clothes in my closet, some that I wear more often than others, yet I feel as if “I don’t have anything to wear.” On top of that I have an issue with impulse buying, which can either lead to me wearing the clothing item a bunch or not at all. And to go even further I get decision fatigue when picking out outfits, which often leads to a repeat in the same outfits being worn. All this is driven by low visibility of current clothing and a cycle of impulse buying where new purchases are made without considering their compatibility with the existing wardrobe. I want to create an app that allows myself, and others, to get the most done while doing the least.
How can we create an easy solution that interrupts impulsive behavior, optimizes the visibility of a user’s current inventory and helps to eliminate decision fatigue?
Initial Research & discovery
Usability tests were conducted with 5 participants to:
Understand their shopping habits
Validate my own pain points and assumptions I had in regards to the problem
Gauge whether this app brings value to them
Uncover other pain points they might encounter when it comes to their experiences with their clothes
KEY FINDINGS
All participants agreed that although their closet was filled with clothes, they felt like they couldn’t figure out what to wear
All participants mentioned their organization could be better, admitting they have a good amount of clothes that they forget about or do not wear
All participants expressed frustration when picking an outfit for work or a date, as their room would turn into a mess with clothes thrown everywhere
One participant mentioned wanting to me more intentional with their shopping and only buy clothes that matched their existing inventory, but had a hard time doing so because she had so many clothes. She also mentioned that it was hard to keep track of what she owned in her closet
2 participants mentioned their frustrations with AI and their concerns that it wouldn’t do a satisfactory job
All participants loved the idea of the app and mentioned they would use it if it were live
Solution + AI Capabilities
MVP
Scenario 1 | Digitize Your Closet
Upload or take a photo of an existing single item of clothing or create a bulk upload of multiple items and AI will automatically convert it into a clean, flat-lay digital asset for your virtual closet
Once processed and before adding the item to your closet, AI will detect the category of the item by auto selecting its respective category pill and search online for the item’s information in order to create it’s summary detail page

Scenario 2 | Prompt Your Look (Video walkthrough coming soon)
Chat with Muse, FitCheck’s AI stylist, to get outfit recommendations based on criteria and information you prompt
Muse will also take into account the weather based on your location and the date of your specific occasion in order to provide the best possible outfits
Post MVP | Future thinking
Scenario 1 | Closet Clean Out
FitCheck will have a feature that will allow you to essentially clean out your closet. You will be able to sift through your entire closet and mark the items you want to donate. Being able to see everything in an easily digestible and organized way will help you make informed decisions holistically on what can go and what can stay
Once the items are added into the donate pile, you can either physically take those items to any donation center or you will be able to auto bulk upload all of the items to Poshmark, with Poshmark’s AI creating individual listings to sell
