FitCheck

An AI clothing app concept that eliminates the issue of ‘having nothing to wear’ and the decision fatigue that comes along with picking out an outfit

Stanford online certificate program: UX/UI Design for AI Products

Project overview

I joined the Stanford online program to obtain a certificate for the UX/UI Design for AI Products course. The course lasted a span of 6 weeks from May 2026 - June 2026. Throughout the course, we were tasked to create our capstone project: identify a need or gap in the market, or within your own experience, that could be addressed through an AI-powered design. I figured out my problem, conducted user research and created a prototype, all using AI.

My Role | Senior UX Designer

Tools Used | Figma Make, Gemini Generative AI

Medium | Native mobile app

Problem

I find that I have so many clothes in my closet, some that I wear more often than others, yet I feel as if “I don’t have anything to wear.” On top of that I have an issue with impulse buying, which can either lead to me wearing the clothing item a bunch or not at all. And to go even further I get decision fatigue when picking out outfits, which often leads to a repeat in the same outfits being worn. All this is driven by low visibility of current clothing and a cycle of impulse buying where new purchases are made without considering their compatibility with the existing wardrobe.

How can we create a solution that interrupts impulsive behavior, optimize the visibility of a user’s current inventory and help to eliminate decision fatigue?

Initial Research & discovery

Usability tests were conducted with 3 participants to:

  • understand their shopping habits

  • validate my own pain points and assumptions I had in regards to the problem

  • gauge whether this app brings value to them

  • uncover other pain points they might encounter when it comes to their experiences with their clothes

KEY FINDINGS

  • All participants agreed that although their closet was filled with clothes, they felt like they couldn’t figure out what to wear

  • All participants mentioned their organization could be better, admitting they have a good amount of clothes that they forget about or do not wear

  • All participants expressed frustration when picking an outfit for work or a date, as their room would turn into a mess with clothes thrown everywhere

  • One participant mentioned wanting to me more intentional with their shopping and only buy clothes that matched their existing inventory, but had a hard time doing so because she had so many clothes. She also mentioned that it was hard to keep track of what she owned in her closet

Solution

AI CAPABILITIES

MVP

  • Upload or take a photo of an existing clothing item or insert a URL of the item from its online store and AI will automatically convert it into a clean, flat-lay digital asset for your virtual closet. Once processed and before adding the item to your closet, AI will detect the category of the item and auto select its respective category pill.

Future thinking

  • I would love to incorporate a feature in the outfits tab where AI will auto suggest outfit combinations based on events (date night, late night bonfire, work interview, etc…)

  • I would also love to be able to upload a photo of a clothing item I am interesting in purchasing, and AI will give a scale of how compatible the item is with my existing wardrobe, which would eliminate my issue of impulse buying.
